Highland Hills House

Addition - Richmond, VA

Built in the 1960s, the existing house was designed as a kit home by Charles Goodman. Sixty years later, its new owners had lovingly restored the midcentury gem but needed more space for their growing family. We added a breezeway between the existing and new that connects the lush front yard to the new courtyard in the rear. A new foyer with storage blends the interior and exterior. The addition houses a primary suite with a extra large view of the courtyard, vaulted ceiling. The goal was not to try to match the authentic midcentury home with a modern approximation, but to harmonize with it.
